Tēnā Koutou Katoa
On 1 July 2009, the whenua, accumulated rentals and other settlement assets were transferred back for the benefit of all Collective members.
The CNI Iwi Collective today, is a confederation of eight iwi from the central North Island(CNI) region:
- Ngai Tuhoe
- Ngāti Manawa
- Ngāti Rangitihi
- Ngāti Tuwharetoa
- Ngāti Whakaue
- Ngāti Whare
- Raukawa
- Te Pumautanga O Te Arawa
These iwi came together to settle their claims to forest lands in the CNI, achieving ground-breaking success with its settlement with the Crown which took effect on 1 July 2009. The vast majority of settlement land is part of Kaingaroa forest. The Collective’s intention is to continue working together beyond July 2009, to make the most of our shared whāinga and tikanga (goals and values), and the combined strength that has made the Collective a force to be reckoned with and respected.
