Ngāti Manawa are descended from Apa-hāpai-taketake, Tangiharuru and his unions with his four wives takuate, Kuranui, Karuroa, and Kuraiti. Their rohe is situated in the Central Bay of Plenty and extends from their sacred mountain Tawhiuau to the east, Waitehouhi to the west, Raepohatu to the north and Otamatea junction to the south.
